  5. Pam , yes they are very edible. Actually I have to fight my daughter for them. She tried one for the first time and loves them. They are sweet and I think they almost have a perfumey taste. The texture is similar to a grape and is a little slippery. The skin is like leather, is rough and a little poky. They are easy to peel once you break trough the skin. They have one large slippery pit in the middle. You might be able to find them canned in an Asian store.

Jenn, thanks, I had fun and they were so pretty!

  6. Cheah, lol! yes, are they so pretty? I want a lychee tree. My daughter says we should get rid of the mango tree and plant a lychee tree. (the squirrel get all our mangoes). I found them at this local Amish market that gets in lovely local produce. I'm there all the time.

Mary, thank you, they were so pretty!

  8. I love them, but they are so hard to get here fresh and I'm not really a big fan on the canned ones.

  10. Lychee is in season now. I bought 4 Ibs of it from NY chinatown and they were so sweet and juicy. My husband and I finished it within 4 days :)

  14. Oh Lindsey, so nice you can get lychees. Yes it is in season now and we find this beautiful fruit all over the market and it is originated in Guangzhou, China.
AND don't cut down your mango tree, you can make mango pudding like mine ;DD

  17. Yea, I don't mind having some! One of my fave fruit to indulge in ... especially when they're REAL sweet. (I think sweet ones are hard to come by nowadays though.)

Surprisingly, though it quenches thirst, according to traditional Chinese medical belief, overconsumption of lychee may actually "bring heat" to the body. Get what I mean? Seems weird initially, but true. That happened to me. LOL!

Hey, love your idea of cultural connection! Will be back for more! Thanks for the encouraging words. =)
